A little over a year ago, back when it was still okay to go out and do things, my roommate and I took a weekend trip up to Mystic Seaport in Connecticut to see the Charles W. Morgan, the last surviving wooden whaleship. It’s... SO cool, so so so beautiful, you can climb on board and go below decks and we got to help hoist up one of the smaller whaleboats and I got to sit in the fo’c’sle with my friends chatting about moby dick /in the same place on the ship where the characters would have sat/ and it was...an Experience!! I want to go back some day, when all this is over. (also, going there was super useful for me since I could take a bunch of my own reference pictures of the deck and the interior of the ship, from which I could construct my own layouts. It’s been instrumentally helpful!)
Anyways, Ishmael’s face here when he sees the Pequod for the first time is pretty much exactly what my face was when we rounded the corner and saw the Morgan for the first time. God, she’s a beautiful ship.
Ishmael: sees the most ominous ship in the universe
Ishmael: Ya that one
